Welcome!
I’ve been devoted to the pursuit and understanding of strength and health for sixteen years now. In high school, shy and struggling with various mental health issues, I was terrified to take the mandatory gym class fitness test in front of everyone. So, I began training for it. Not only did I pass the test but I discovered that I loved training. It gave me clarity, a sense of belonging and control, and helped me cope with my difficult life at home.
Through the rest of high school and college I studied everything strength training; reading and listening took up more time than my actual work on my degrees. I eventually decided that I wanted to make a career out of helping others as a coach--I interned with Mike Perry at Skill of Strength, sought out continuing education courses and presentations, and achieved certifications in Pavel Tsatsouline’s Strongfirst methodology, the SFB and SFL, as well as FMS level I and II and the NSCA-CPT.
After training small groups at a kettlebell gym in Maryland for just under a year, I moved on across the country to work under Danny Sawaya at Tucson Strength. There I was able to get extremely valuable experience not just learning from Danny and working with people from all walks of life, but coaching a team of amateur powerlifters for several years.
I genuinely believe that training for strength and health will improve your quality of life. Mastering your own body through learning basic movement patterns, gaining strength in those patterns over time, and then applying that strength (if you so choose) through a variety of active hobbies can change everything for you. I cannot overstate the effect of learning that you can, indeed, become stronger, move better, and feel the way you want will have on you!
I do also think that the current norm of instagram flash and overly intense, overly varied, unfocused training accompanied by crash dieting and a negative self image is pretty unhealthy. Truly sensible and sustainable training must diverge from most pop fitness trends.
Providing you with easily accessible and understandable training information of the highest quality is my purpose here. Please feel free to reach out at any time!
